Philly's Porch Light program with Nadia MALIK | Alt Spring Break Philly Edition

We traveled to Philly to talk with activist Nadia Malik who runs the Porch Light program for Mural Arts Philly which uses art as a pathway to helping people with mental health issues.

The Porch Light program is a joint collaboration with the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services. They focus on achieving universal health and wellness among Philadelphians, especially those dealing with mental health issues or trauma. They do this by providing opportunities to contribute to meaningful works of public art.

Our interview series 'Alternative Break' profiles new creative arts professionals across a variety of fields, illuminating the wide range of career paths available and inspiring you to think critically about your career goals.

We explore the creative communities in DC, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York visiting recording studios, art galleries to comic book stores, silk screen museums, theaters and artists owned gallery spaces to tell the stories that empower you to amplify your voice through a career in the creative arts industry.
