kNOw new leaders ep.03 | Diversifying the Tech Industry with Guest Mikeal Vaughn
Join Words Beats & Life Inc.’s Founder and Executive Director, Mazi Mutafa, and guest Mikeal Vaughn to discuss leadership within the technology industry in the third episode of kNOw new leaders. Watch Below!
Our guest this week is Mikeal Vaughn, the founder and Executive Director of Urban Coders Guild, a Tulsa-based non-profit organization that provides increased access to computer science education and resources to historically underserved communities.
Mikeal spent the past twenty years working in IT in the US and Japan. A native of North Tulsa and a Booker T. Washington High School graduate, Mikeal returned to Tulsa with a vision.
Charged with the mission to provide meaningful STEM experiences for students who look like him and come from communities like his own, Mikeal is building a Black and Brown tech talent pipeline prepared to thrive in Tulsa's emerging tech industry.
He passionately believes in the need for cradle-to-career STEM/STEAM learning experiences that fuel a diverse talent pipeline capable of supporting Tulsa's emerging tech and entrepreneurship ecosystems.
For Mikeal, these tech careers offer Tulsa's Black youth a tenable opportunity to build intergenerational wealth and carry the historic Black Wall Street spirit into the 21st century and beyond.
