jessica Care moore graced the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage with vocalist IDEEYAH and percussionists Jamal Moore and Wendell Patrick during the 2023 Words Beats and Life (WBL) Festival in Washington, DC. 

jessica Care moore is an internationally renowned poet, playwright, performance artist, and producer. As a published poet, Moore has a wide range of titles, including those under her publishing company, Moore Black Press. 

She is the 2013 Alain Locke Award recipient from the Detroit Institute of Arts. Since, she has expanded her craft to include her debut album, “Black Tea: The Legend of Jessi James.”

Her work speaks volumes on topics from womanhood, love, and self-perception to the politics surrounding the lives of Black folks in America. Moore's poetry appears on the albums “Nastradamus” by Nas, “Church in These Streets” by Jeezy, and “Attack The Block” by Talib Kweli.

Moore performed selections such as “Walking on 158th Street,” “What Language is the Black Girl Screaming In?”, “You Want Poems,” and more from her previous and upcoming works of poetry. 

The combination of heart-pumping percussion and silky words from the microphones of the talent creates a supportive atmosphere for open ears and open minds. 

It is a time of appreciation for Black women and Black culture; a time for criticism and commentary on our social and political conditions; a time for laughter and remembrance of the many people we have lost along the way.
