In the last twenty years, Words Beats & Life has visited a total of fifteen countries and made an impact on hundreds of people while beautifying walls with murals or bringing different aspects of hip-hop to communities. Uganda was one of those trips.

Saba Saba was the artist that invited us to visit his country, when he visited the Saturday Academy tell us about hip-hop in his country. It took us two years to find the money but it would be worth all the effort. The Pearl of Africa, it was the first place we visited as an organization. Over the years we recognized the work of Breakdance Project Uganda and the Bavubuka Foundation as two of the world's best hip-hop organizations. Each led by brilliant MC's with messages for their communities and the world. 

The photos in this essay are courtesy of the UG Hip-Hop Archivist, Bwette Daniel, a leader in the Bavubuka Foundation. They showcase the culture of hip-hop in a community or Graffiti artists who are also shop owners, MCs that are also farmers, and dancers that are also teachers. It is a truly rich community filled with beautiful people living the truest hip-hop lives you will ever witness. We have learned so much by just being in the company of these creative giants. We hope that these photos inspire you to travel to be part of a hip- hop community. You will be changed by it.
